Houtema River Cabins

Stay in the Beautiful Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve

Two privately owned cabins on the Palmiet River

About Us

Houtema River Cabins is situated on Privately owned land along the Kogelberg Nature Reserve Entrance road about 1h30 drive from Cape Town. The cabins are built on the banks of the Palmiet River, situated within the Kogelberg Biosphere and the Heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Each cabin sleeps 4. Totally off-grid and runs on solar power.

Sustainable and best Eco-tourism practice meant that the ecological sensitivity of the area required low impact, environmentally friendly methods to be used in developing our cabins.

All efforts were made to reduce our impact on the environment. Our cabins are completely off grid making use of solar power and gas. Fire poses a serious threat to the fynbos and for this reason no open fires are permitted, but one can still enjoy a late afternoon gas fired braai on the patio with sweeping views of the soaring mountain peaks and magnificent fynbos.
